Planning: Writing a Treatment

INTRODUCTION

Artist; Glass Animals
Track; Flip

Director; Agne Jurkenaite

3 glass/ice animals (cat, dog and a horse) become real and set off to the Arctic. The journey is visualised with occasional effects before they reach their destination and reverse back to their original glass/ice forms.
THE IDEA

The music video is going to be based on a trio of glass animals (a dog, a cat and a horse) on a journey to the Arctic. They are first introduced in the video as small glass animal figures in their homes and suddenly melt into real beings. They are to stay in their glass animal size and not grow into the true dog/cat/horse's scale. They begin wandering around many places before reaching their destination. The shots are going to take place mostly outdoors, however some may be shot interior if need be. I hope to explore variety of locations, such as anything common like a town, to possibly an abandoned warehouse.

Because the song is full of different instruments that create an interesting beat, I will be editing some of the footage to the beat of the song with interesting effects, perhaps make the cat glitch, or the dog's eyes become like a broken TV's screen when making eye contact with the audience. The aim of this is to hopefully mirror the beat through visuals to create a harmony within the music and the video.

When they finally reach the Arctic, they begin freezing again to their original form as the cold obtains them. The ice they form into is similar to glass, which I want to interpret from the artists' name. Perhaps this makes the animals the performers as the band is illustrated by the glass animals featured in the music video. Additionally, I want to narrate the 'flip' between the original ice/glass form of the animals and their realistic forms that sits on the boundary.

The appearance of the video will have a feel of cinematic effect, including the black border on the top and bottom, as well as a faint hint of colouring change, just like seen in many Glass Animal music videos. I'm also hoping to introduce the music video with Glass Animals' logo at the beginning appear on screen for a few seconds.

I'm rather fond of the idea of editing certain things of the subject as I think this may fit the mood of the song and make the video more interesting to watch. Including a variety of different effects will draw the viewer's attention as they will expect something different each time.

I like the transition between the two shots because its different from the ordinary cross dissolve. In addition, the fact that the first shot is upside down lets the transition flow. Also, the film burn combined with the clips gives the vintage feel to the overall result.

In this example, we can see the speed of the clip being played around. I quite like this effect because it lets you view certain moments of the same clip rather than having to watch the entire footage in slow motion or perhaps the entire thing in a few seconds without having a good glimpse of it. I also like the old film flickering going on that makes the video look vintage once again.

With this police car, I like how its the only one having its colours rapidly change. I think this really brings out the character of the police as they're relatively noisy when in action to let its surroundings know, and at this moment with the effect, it really enhances it. The constant glitch of the footage also gives it an interesting feel to the car like its in a hurry.
